Acrylic Mediums
Acrylic mediums are specialised formulations that artists mix into acrylic paint to tailor its behaviour without altering the pigment itself. They allow you to change properties like thickness, gloss, drying speed, and texture for more nuanced control in your work.
Gel & Heavy Gel Mediums boost body and viscosity in your paint, making them ideal for impasto, sculptural strokes, or adding pronounced texture. They help maintain colour strength while letting you build physical depth on the surface.
Gloss, Matte & Glazing Mediums adjust the finish and shine of your work—gloss mediums enhance vibrancy and light reflection, while matte ones subdue gloss and flatten the appearance. Glazing mediums enable you to create translucent layers and subtle colour effects without diluting binder too much.
Retarders & Slow‑Drying Mediums extend your working time, giving you more flexibility for blending, gradients, and detail. Use them carefully: too much can weaken the paint film or delay curing.
Texture & Modeling Pastes (e.g. sand, fibre, pumice pastes) let you build relief, embed materials, or roughen surfaces for dramatic effects. These are great for mixed media, bas-relief, or tactile art explorations.
Together, these mediums expand what acrylics can do—transforming a flat paint into a dynamic, multi-dimensional toolset that adapts to your vision.
