Jane ‘Danger’ Davenport on Daniel Smith watercolours:
"My favourite Daniel Smith watercolors are an invitation to play.
They granulate.
They make amazing watermarks.
Each brushstroke is a beautiful, fascinating adventure.
By using art materials that allow me to enjoy the process so much, ideas can roam free, inspiration and imagination bubble to the surface and I create art that I love with ease. I don't have to worry about being an 'expert', or creating a perfect drawing first. I just dive right in with a smile on my face.”
The hues I have selected for my dot palette have all the seductive and unpredictable charm of a mermaid:
- Buff Titanium
- Iridescent Topaz
- Hematite Violet
- Potters Pink
- Naphthamide Maroon
- Rhodenite Genuine
- Shadow Violet
- Moonglow
- Amethyst Genuine
- Kyanite Genuine
- Sodalite Genuine
- Lunar Blue
- Sleeping Beauty Turquoise
- Phthalo Turquoise
- Amazonite Genuine
- Serpentine Genuine
- Fuschite Genuine
- Cascade Green
Of course there are other foundation colours that I use, but I wanted this dot card to hold some of the extraordinary Daniel Smith paints that people may not have had the pleasure of using before.
I consider these colours ‘alive’ because they do so much movement on their own, which makes them so exciting to use.

In all my online workshops, I cover techniques that a beginner can feel confident to try, through to more advanced concepts to push creative boundaries. I love teaching! I have attached images from recent journals as I prepare for my next 3 exciting online workshops for 2015. The first expands on my new book “Drawing & Painting Beautiful Faces” and the next concentrates solely on Watercolor. I have also been filming for my urban sketching series filmed in in Bali, Paris, London, Sydney, Mexico City and my home in Byron Bay.
